Overcome Feelings of Shame

Shame is a painful emotion associated with feeling bad, wrong or without value. It is present in most people’s experience of themselves and the world.

Shame is rarely recognized for what it is. Shame is often camouflaged within our desire to look good, feel accepted and avoid judgment. Shame does motivate, but it does so at a tremendous cost to both our well-being and our effectiveness.

A central principle of Texas Wellness Institute’s services is that shame and perfectionism significantly hinder our enjoyment of happiness and success.

Perfectionism is a self destructive and addictive belief system that fuels this primary thought: If I look perfect, and do everything perfectly, I can avoid or minimize the painful feelings of shame, judgment, and blame. ― Brené Brown
